After four years of music-related activities, ‘DO IT! Collective’ officially ceases to run as we focus our attentions 100% on the newly christened Fine Grains Records. An evolution of years of putting on events, booking diverse acts and playing out around Europe; Fine Grains will be an amalgam of new music and design, anticipating and releasing limited release records that feature artwork and sounds representative of different emergent scenes from around the world. The label launch night went off with a bang at Turkish Delight. You can check out footage and images on Resident Advisor from the Fine Grains launch here.
Please note: This DO IT! Collective site will cease to run, jump over to FINE GRAINS RECORDS site here to keep up to date with our news and events.
Fine Grains records is a new music/design project from the Scottish graphic designer and co-founder of the successful DO IT! and The Drop club nights, Alexander Horne. The label will continue Horne’s precedent for anticipating and recognising the most exciting future sounds from scenes around the world and combine it with limited edition artwork, events and international collaborations. For their website launch, Fine Grains invites highly rated Russian beatmaker OL, UK producer ¥OIN and Norwegian skweee musician BEATBULLY to perform alongside Fine Grains founder Horne (Uraki Riddim) and VJ Pop Com.
My latest mix for French music magazine Tsugi is online now. The mix is the first in a series representing the sounds of the Norwegian electronic music scene and coinciding with the Scandinavian equivalent of SXSW, By:Larm festival, where I will be playing as part of The Drop beats/skweee showcase next Thursday. Tracks from Russian beatmakers OL, Pixelord & 813 to Tuff Wax kids Yoin, Bones & Money are all up in there so get on it and enjoy listening!
DO IT! 3rd Birthday (and closing night) Photos and Video
DO IT! is 3 - and out! Our closing night at Snafu went down heavy and was great to see so many of our regular faces make it down to bid adeu. Tuff Wax duo Cruicky and Yoin set the tone at the pre-party before our residents (Uraki Riddim, Kid Bell and White Chocolate) warmed up nicely for the first ever Auntie Flo live show in Aberdeen. The foundations were set for one of our favourite past guests Ikonika to tear down the club and bring three years of groundbreaking audio visual events in Aberdeen and Oslo to a close. A fitting way to end with one of our most high profile guests in place of the AWOL dEbruit. Some big news coming here soon about what next for DO IT!, check the great video by Campbell Montgomery (aka Studio Cee) below and the best of his pics on RA here.
DO IT! turns 3! After three years of cutting edge international acts and audio-visual performances, DO IT! bids farewell this Friday at Snafu. Co-founder Alexander Horne’s anticipated record label will venture out to expand the music DO IT has embraced in 2012. To celebrate our final night, we have an all-night takeover of one of Scotlands’s finest venues, a crop of exciting home-grown acts, Auntie Flo and dEbruit live shows….don’t miss out, DO IT!
Ahead of his first gig in Oslo as support for Gold Panda at The Drop last Friday, Aberdeen DJ/producer ¥oin picked up some major hype from the renowned XLR8R website. With his debut release ‘Martial Status’ imminently released by Tuff Wax as part of the Aberdeen Truth series, the future looks bright for the latest Scottish artist to don the hardcore continuum cape. Click through on the links below to listen and download a 192 kps version of ‘Martial Status and read an interview by Norwegian Vice-esque Smug magazine which was also conducted late last week ahead of his Oslo debut. Catch ¥oin play at the Tuff Wax launch party this coming weekend in Aberdeen and the final DO IT! night on December 9th (tickets available at special advance discount rate from RA here), both nights at Snafu nightclub.
Second volume of The Drop about to hit Oslo! Anticipating a special show what with our headline act Gold Panda playing live in Oslo for the first time, not to mention the Scottish and Norwegian talents on support duties. Live warm up for Gold Panda will come courtesy of Oslo instrumental beats adventurist Snasen followed by a DJ set from Scotland’s latest electronic music DJ/producer representing the sounds of the ‘hardcore continuum’ ¥oin. To top things off there will be a live visual set up from VJ Pop Com and expert selections from myself (Uraki Riddim) and Sellout! music’s Andre Jazzmal. Advance tickets are available from the venue, John Dee, and Ticketmaster.
