After four years of music-related activities, ‘DO IT! Collective’ officially ceases to run as we focus our attentions 100% on the newly christened Fine Grains Records. An evolution of years of putting on events, booking diverse acts and playing out around Europe; Fine Grains will be an amalgam of new music and design, anticipating and releasing limited release records that feature artwork and sounds representative of different emergent scenes from around the world. The label launch night went off with a bang at Turkish Delight. You can check out footage and images on Resident Advisor from the Fine Grains launch here.
Please note: This DO IT! Collective site will cease to run, jump over to FINE GRAINS RECORDS site here to keep up to date with our news and events.
Fine Grains records is a new music/design project from the Scottish graphic designer and co-founder of the successful DO IT! and The Drop club nights, Alexander Horne. The label will continue Horne’s precedent for anticipating and recognising the most exciting future sounds from scenes around the world and combine it with limited edition artwork, events and international collaborations. For their website launch, Fine Grains invites highly rated Russian beatmaker OL, UK producer ¥OIN and Norwegian skweee musician BEATBULLY to perform alongside Fine Grains founder Horne (Uraki Riddim) and VJ Pop Com.
My latest mix for French music magazine Tsugi is online now. The mix is the first in a series representing the sounds of the Norwegian electronic music scene and coinciding with the Scandinavian equivalent of SXSW, By:Larm festival, where I will be playing as part of The Drop beats/skweee showcase next Thursday. Tracks from Russian beatmakers OL, Pixelord & 813 to Tuff Wax kids Yoin, Bones & Money are all up in there so get on it and enjoy listening!

Synthetic funk, analogue beats and global electronic music at arguably the only event comprehensively representing these soundsduring By:Larm 2012. Check out previews from the live acts below:
Skweee has been gathering a fair amount of international interest of recent, those of you who had the forsight to catch the Norwegian skweee label Dødpop in the UK for the first time at a DO IT! showcase in Aberdeen, followed by the Donky Pitch extravaganza in Brighton, would no doubt testify to the live might of analogue boombap funk that resonates from the trio of Sprutbass, Beatbully and Melkeveien. Big news then for fans of such heavy hitting lo-fi sounds - Beatbully has just dropped his and Dødpop’s debut artist LP entitled ‘Kosmisk Regn’. From low end synthetic funk rollers, girder enforced R’n’B and intricate boogie mechanisms - the full package is as an impressive an album as you could pick up in recent years in any music genre, let alone skweee. Completed perfectly with artwork by graphic artist PJ de Villiers, go buy the record and support great music from a genuine and talented independent artist. Meantime, enjoy some excerpts from the album below and have a crack at winning it via a Resident Advisor competition here.
A skweee showcase introducing one of the best known labels in the genre, direct from Norway and in the UK for the very first time to launch the debut Dødpop artist LP, ‘Kosmik Regn’ by Beatbully. Having sent the dancefloor into a mass skweee sprawl at Unsound, By:Larm and Øya last year - this gig will deliver live sets from key members of the Nordic imprint: Beatbully, Sprutbasss & Melkeveien. With DJ support from DO IT! residents (Uraki Riddim, Kid Bell & White Chocolate) and Hush Hush honcho Giles Walker, visuals by Uber AV and a Funktion One soundsystem - the event promises to be an exciting introduction to the conflict r’n’b and synthetic funk sounds of this Scando analogue movement that has gathered international interest.
